About me

I am an avid data nerd and am very interested in using data to solve problems and to improve the lives of people. I enjoy improving my skills and knowledge by learning and doing. You can see what I’m learning lately on Coursera and github. I also occasionally add things on Kaggle.

My projects

Chronic Absenteeism in Colorado School Districts

Rates of chronic absenteeism have been increasing in Colorado over the past several years. This analysis aims to identify broad trends, both spatially and temporally, in this phenomenon and to provide resources to those that are investigating and verifying methods to mitigate it.

This project was my capstone project for the Google Data Analytics certification program, which I completed in January of 2024. The analysis is primary done in R making use of publicly available data. There is also a companion dashboard, created in Tableau available in the resource section.

Case Study: Providing Pensions for the Poor

This project focuses on the policy analysis that led to a decision on eligibility requirements for a rural senior pension program launched by the Mexican government in 2007. It was the capstone project for Data Analysis in the Public Sector with R, a certification program run by the University of Michigan hosted on the Coursera leaning platform. I completed it in February of 2024.

Dependency Ratios in Washington State 2011-2021

Dependency ratios are important quantities that facilitate policy planning. They provide interested governmental and non-governmental entities insight into population dynamics for regions of interest. The insights gained can help planners to anticipate changing needs as age demographics within the population change. Given scarcity of resources, dependency ratios can inform where limited funds can best be applied to ensure that they are used effectively, efficiently, and equitably.

This analysis was conducted in R using data from the Washington State Department of Health.

Denver Crime Analysis

This project takes a look at robbery data for 2021 in neighborhoods in east Denver. Spatial statistics are applied to identify robbery hot spots and their proximity to bus stops.
